What is Discount Calculator?
Discount Calculator shows you exactly how much you'll save and pay during sales. It handles single discounts, stacked discounts (like extra 20% off sale items), and even helps you find the original price from a sale price.
Why Would You Need to Calculate Discounts?
Sales and discounts are everywhere. Here's when this calculator helps:
- Shopping sales: Know your final price before checkout surprises
- Stacked promotions: Figure out total savings when discounts combine
- Price comparisons: Compare deals between stores with different discount structures
- Budget planning: Calculate how much you'll spend during sales events
- Finding original prices: Discover what something cost before the discount
How to Calculate Discounts - Step by Step
- Pick calculation type: Simple discount, stacked discounts, reverse calculator, or price comparison
- Enter the original price: Type the price before any discounts
- Add discount percentages: Enter one discount or add multiple stacked discounts
- See your savings: View discount amount, final price, and total savings percentage
Key Features
- Stacked discounts: Add multiple discounts that apply one after another
- 18 currencies: Calculate in USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, and many more
- Reverse calculator: Find original price when you only know the sale price and discount
- Price comparison: Compare two products side by side with different discounts
- Real-time results: Answers update instantly as you type
- Total savings: See the combined discount percentage from stacked sales
Tips for Best Results
- Remember: 20% off + 30% off is NOT 50% off - it's actually 44% total
- Use price comparison to see which store has the better deal
- The reverse calculator is great for figuring out if a "sale" is really a good deal
Frequently Asked Questions
How do stacked discounts work?
Each discount applies to the price AFTER the previous discount. So 20% off $100 = $80, then 30% off $80 = $56. That's different from a single 50% discount.
Why isn't 20% + 30% equal to 50%?
Because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original. Two 50% discounts would give you 75% off total, not 100%.
How do I find the original price?
Use the "Reverse Calculator" tab. Enter the sale price and the discount percentage, and we'll calculate what it cost before the sale.
